Our Approach

A calm, grounded approach

Counselling here is trauma-informed, person-centred and integrative. In practice, that means sessions are shaped around you, your pace and what feels manageable.

The work often begins by making space to understand your emotions and experiences more clearly. At times, we may gently explore how relationships, life circumstances, earlier experiences or family patterns have shaped the way you think, feel and respond. From there, the focus shifts toward what feels more aligned, more workable and more supportive of the life you want to move toward.

Leisa draws on a variety of evidence-informed methods including Emotion-Focused Therapy, CBT, Humanistic Therapy, ACT, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness and Body-Based Practices, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

Do I need a referral?

No. You are welcome to self-refer. Referrals from GPs and other health professionals are also accepted.

Can counselling be done online or in-person?

Both. Online sessions are delivered securely via video telehealth so you can attend from anywhere in Australia, and in-person sessions are available by appointment in the Deception Bay area, QLD. See the in-person counselling page for details.

What happens in the first session?

The first session focuses on what has brought you here, what you would like support with, and how you are coping right now. You will also be given important information about privacy, fees and your rights so you can decide whether you feel comfortable continuing.

Do I need to know exactly what to say?

Not at all. Many people begin counselling without feeling clear on how to explain what is going on. Part of the process is slowing down enough to make sense of it together.
